Students, parents, and faculty have come to know Mr. Hallman as the man who wears suits every day and repeatedly reminds us to donate tax credit money. He sits in classrooms and sometimes participates in the discussions. He is always showing people around the school, whether it is a group of parents or potential donors. Even though he is leaving, we can still expect those things from our new headmaster. However, there are some things that Mr. Hallman will leave behind as he embarks on a new journey.
During his four-year tenure, he has contributed much to our school. Most recently he made the biggest renovation to our campus in Tempe Prep history: expanding the 400 building and adding a new piazza. If only the trees would grow faster so there would actually be shade during lunch! He also implemented the transition of the seventh and eighth grade to the Tempe Preparatory Junior Academy, which led to the expansion of the junior high. Two sixth grade and a seventh grade class were added. Now more students than ever can experience the Tempe Prep curriculum and be better prepared for life. Another contribution is our use of the Ed Options gym. Now our sports teams have better facilities to practice in.
Mr. Hallman would like to remind students that “because our community is so small, we spend a great deal of time together in close quarters” and to “take a few more moments to consider others’ points of view and, when in doubt, respond with kindness.”
While he leaves behind his legacy at Tempe Prep, he also carries with him the memories of his time here. He says, “Working with students, faculty, and staff has been a true joy. Each of the students and the adults who serve them have enriched my life significantly.” In fact, he will miss most the daily interaction with students and parents. It shows how closely knit our small community really is.
With a new headmaster, there will be changes, but Tempe Prep will still have the same comfortable learning environment and quality education. We bid Mr. Hallman farewell and good luck in his future pursuits.
