As February begins, Tempe Prep’s Women’s Varsity Basketball season comes to a close. Throughout their whole season, the team showed improvement even with the loss of a few players after the first semester.
The season began somewhat roughly, but in December TPA ensured an impressive win against Tonopah Valley. Tempe Prep went home victorious with more than twice their opponent’s points, making this the first win of the season with a score of 52-21.
The win against Tonopah Valley started a winning streak for Tempe Prep. The next December game was against Mingus Mountain Academy and the women’s basketball team scored almost three times as much as their opposing team. TPA ended that game with a score of 55 versus Mingus Mountain Academy’s 20, making this an extraordinary win.
The third win to add to this streak was against Williams High School. During final exams, the varsity women’s basketball team was taking down Williams High in a tough game, which ended with Tempe Prep being 18 points ahead and the final scores totaling 37-19.
Ten days later, the streak ended when Tempe Prep faced Gilbert Christian during a tournament. Though Gilbert Christian started off in the first quarter with a 13-point advantage, the TPA basketball team still persevered and racked up a total of 21 points in the fourth quarter. This amazing comeback did not allow TPA to win, with the final scores being 25-40, but it does show how the team worked together to make an impressive increase in their score.
The New Year started off on a great note after Tempe Prep won a game against Fountain Hills with a final score of 39-27. Later on in January, TPA played against Mohave Accelerated and continued to score more points than Mohave until the third quarter, yet still Tempe Prep won with a score of 44-27. Later on in January, Tempe Prep also won against Veritas Prep by a score of 33-28.
The varsity teams’ final win of the season was against Scottsdale Christian Academy. Scoring more than twice what their opponents did, TPA won with a score of 32-15.
Overall, the women’s varsity basketball team did face some challenges but persevered and ended up winning many games with astonishing scores.
