Tempe Prep is well known for preparing its graduates for top-notch colleges and universities around the country. Here’s a sampling of some of our current seniors’ higher-education plans.
Anne Fischer will be attending the University of Dallas, a small liberal arts college with a rigorous core curriculum and a strong Catholic community. She chose this college because of these opportunities and for the chance to spend a semester in Rome. Anne plans to study economics. “Economic theory and economic history have always fascinated me. Plus, a B.A. in economics is a great way to continue studying both the humanities and sciences, both of which I love,” Anne said. The University of Dallas is lucky to have her.
Kyle Pickard will be attending Northwestern University. “It provides a top tier education with the school spirit of a Big Ten school on a smaller suburban campus,” said Kyle. He likes the quarter system the school has instead of the semester system because it allows him to take more classes. He enjoys the small town feel of the college while it is near a city. Kyle is undecided about a major, but said it probably will be engineering or economics. Kyle will be an asset to Northwestern University.
Claire Newfeld is excited to attend the University of California at Berkeley. When asked why she chose this school, she said, “I visited the campus and something just clicked. It felt like the right place and I could just see myself going there.” She plans to major in philosophy, but is keeping her mind open to changing her major if something else interests her. Claire said, “I want to study philosophy because I feel that it’s one of the deepest forms of human appreciation and understanding, and I’d eventually like to get my Ph.D. and work at a university.” Berkeley will be lucky to have Claire Newfeld.
Dane Steadman will be attending Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University next fall. He chose this school because he can attend “pretty much for free.” He plans on majoring in something to do with biology. “Biology is useful and interesting,” said Dane. “I can do a lot with biology.” Dane will be a huge asset to Barrett.
