Q. What is your favorite villain from literature?

By Nina Lin, Waley Lin and William Zheng

This month we asked Tempe Prep students: What is your favorite villain from literature?

Joss Snyder 6AMaleficent. She is the first evil character and she’s the first one in my mind.

Zeke Shaw 6CHerobrine, from the Jungle Temple Oracle of the Bunuk night series because he’s very mysterious and powerful.

Liam Phelan 7ASauron is my favorite villain from the book, The Lord of the Rings. He’s my favorite character because he is very powerful and is like a boss. Also he looks really cool.

Sam Goodykoontz 7A – (Lord) Voldemort, because he is not just evil, he’s evilness himself.

Clara Moffitt 7AMy favorite villain is Voldemort. He has no nose and makes me laugh because I saw a picture of him, and his nose looks like a power outlet. He is also super swaggy and acts all cool. The best reason, however, is when he and Harry Potter are fighting. Harry Potter is having a really hard time with his wand and has a painful expression. Voldemort is all relaxed and is enjoying his time.

Annie Meacham 7A – My favorite villain is Basta from the book Inkheart. He is my favorite villain because since he is the apprentice of the main villain; you feel pity for him. He believed in all these superstitions, which made him do some of the bad and mean things, which again makes you feel pity for him.

Evan Hackett 7BSmaug from The Hobbit, because he’s a fearless and scary dragon.

Abby Haas 7BMy favorite villain is Voldemort. I like him because he always comes back to fight for what he believes is right, which is what I would do. So we are like kind of the same. Also he can control a Basilisk (a mythical reptile-lizard).  I think his snake is cool.

Sierra Smith 7CMy favorite villain is Galbatorix from Eragon. In the end, he’s just a dragon rider striving for peace.

Galbatorix

Maria Brittain 8AJack from the Lord of the Flies. He is bad, but he doesn’t know how to be bad.

Darrell Bailey 8AAlice from Alice in Wonderland, because she bullies the other characters. It hurts my feelings. It stinks in my heart. When she got mad at the Mad Hatter for telling her that it wasn’t a dream, she got upset and pushes him and abuses him.

Alex Pivonka 8BOld Yeller because he’s mean and bites people.

Jamie Owen 8CThe Beast from the Lord of the Flies. He’s my favorite because he’s savage.

Anna Moriarty 8BMy favorite villain is from the Lord of the Flies, Roger; he is a very mean person. He bullies everyone and abuses them either by throwing rocks or causing trouble for others.

Auston-Claire Merrill 9CThe Devil from the Holy Bible, because if he didn’t exist, we wouldn’t have any evil in the world. Also the Devil is the fundamental element to all other villains. He set the standards for everyone else.

Carter Sampson 10BDarth Vader from Star Wars because he talks weirdly and he can choke people with the force.

Eddie Pivonka 10AMy favorite literary villain is Old Yeller, because he makes the poor child cry when he died at the end.

Max Hoyt 10ACaptain Hook because he got his hand bitten off and still managed to get away from a super crocodile. Only villains get an unhappy ending and are always unlucky.

Harish Ilango 10BI have two favorite villains. One, Grendel from Beowulf, because he is a wicked monster who kills humans and eats their flesh. He also had a loving mother who avenged his son’s death. The second, Smaug from the Lord of the Rings, because he is a fearsome dragon.

Matthew Bergin 11CThe wall from Romeo and Juliet. Walls are evil even if they are really well built.

Omnia Imam 11AMy favorite villain is Othello. Othello is a challenging character, because he follows his naive friend Iago, who is the complete opposite of Othello.

Donny Phillips 11BI believed childhood obesity is the worst villain there is. It has killed thousands of children across America. It often gets ignored. It shouldn’t. It’s the reason Piggy dies in Lord of the Flies.

Jacob Matsumoto 11CDikaiopolis from Athenaze because he is terrible to his slave.

Micah Brittain 11Dorian Grey because he is a murderer from the picture of Dorian Grey.

dorian grey

Joe Swingle 11CEeyore (donkey)in Winnie the Pooh. He is always negative, sarcastic and he destroys happiness.

Ariana Cardoso 12BMy favorite villain is Iago from Othello because he is manipulative and deceitful. I identify strongly with him.

Dominique Huges 12B – Madame Defarge from Tale of Two Cities. Does it need an explanation?

Taryn Gould 12BSonia from Crime and Punishment. I don’t like her.
