When people think of art, they often think of images in a gallery, or maybe sculptures around town. But there is another place students at TPA can see art and it’s right there in the classroom.
It’s all part of the newest project from the Art Department called Wall Hacks. Wall Hacks is an idea from the new art teacher, Mr. Savaglio, who was inspired by his brother’s job at Facebook. Wall Hack involves finding a blank or bare wall, then covering it in art. If classes don’t have anything on the walls, they could use a little beautifying.
The art can be anything, so long as it is teacher approved and it serves to lighten the atmosphere. It also serves a secondary purpose: “I’m hoping to encourage students to work hard on aesthetically pleasing work because if they know it will go on display, they might really want to make it look good,” Mr.Savaglio says.
The Wall Hacks are currently only in a few rooms for now, but they are hoping to spread out more next semester. This isn’t just some famous artist’s work, but actual art students. It adds a little more beauty to TPA, as well as giving these young artists a place to display their work proudly.
Speaking of art, Phoenix artist Sherrie Zeitlin is putting on a display early next year that contains some art from the Tempe Prep art classes. Their Charlie Harper abstract birds, as well as some cats will be on display at the Art Resource Center. Congratulations to those art students.
