There are constantly new clubs popping up around the school, and their individuality makes each one special. However, junior Joya Ma’s Fashion Club is one of the most unique. After participating in an enlightening fashion program last summer, Joya came back to school with the urge to continue her passion for fashion. A fashion club is obviously new to TPA, so Joya thought, what’s better than to try and bring anyone interested in fashion together. This would in turn help to better the brainstorming process for anyone interested, and provide improvement in design. As Joya says, “I personally, really like fashion and I plan to pursue it as a career. This club can help people know more about fashion and the fashion industry.” Within a few meetings, participants have already been experimenting with illustrations, and Joya has plans for a more detailed outline in the semester. As for current projects, each member tries to find their own inspiration and express it through a collection of fashionable pictures and designs. Inspirational ideas are endless, from cities, music genres, and architectures, to trees, flowers, and shells. From there they put together mood boards, which visualize their inspirations further. Each collection will consist of 5-8 looks and their sketches will be based on them. Looking ahead, Joya plans to do some draping projects later in the semester once they get their hands on some mannequins and fabrics. But, like all clubs it’s impossible to continue without committed members. The club usually
gets together every Friday after school in Room 405. Drop by and see if you share the same passion for fashion!
