Everyone loves going to the movies: seeing amazing creatures and stories brought to life on the big screen. We as the audience get to enjoy these cinematic masterpieces, but for the filmmakers the process is not so stress-free. Tempe Prep’s new Film Club is a place where students can learn more about filmmaking, and all of the components that go into making a film. When most people think of making a movie, they think of just picking up a camera and filming. But there are many steps that must be completed before filming even begins and many that come after filming has ended. The first step is acquiring or writing a screenplay about something exciting as well as something you are passionate about. Next, you’ll want to envision what your film is going to look like: the setting, the costumes, the props. All of this can be sketched out in storyboards or in whatever manner is most suitable to your needs. Once you have your script finalized, all of your actors, sets, costumes, and props ready, then it is finally time to start film production. Once you make your first cut it is time for editing, editing, and more editing! Screen the movie with people who have never seen it before and use their feedback to improve the film. Once you are happy with your final product, you have your movie! Now not everyone is going to grow up to be a Hollywood filmmaker but if any of this interests you, Tempe Prep’s film club is a great place to start! Amateur filmmakers all over the world make films just as a
hobby and even enter them in film festivals and contests where they can gain a lot of recognition. Filmmaking is an art that has not been around for very long, but it has grown considerably since its introduction in the 1890s. So if you are interested in learning more about this and want to join Film Club, contact Bella DiCaro or Aimee Cheng, the leaders of the club.
