The winter sports season is almost over and it has been a successful one, although full of challenges. From winning in the playoffs to team improvement, this winter has been great.
Boys Soccer
For first year and a new league and with new coaches, the team has done really well. The main accomplishment of the season is the preparation for their next and high school seasons. Eighth-grader Evan Hackett it says, “Our record doesn’t show our success. Throughout the season we progressed a ton, which we couldn’t have done without excellent coaches.” The eighth graders are really excited and ready to start playing high school ball, and the kids playing next year already for the seasons to come.
Girls soccer
The girls soccer team ended up with a 4-2-1 record. They played great throughout the season, even with a tough loss in the playoffs. Throughout the season they showed courage and perseverance against tough teams. Natalie Whitmer, an eighth grader, says, “We really worked together as a team to improve our skills, and support each other, which is how we won most of our games.” With lots of talent and potential, Tempe prep students should look for this team next year and both middle school and high school.
Baseball
This year was the year of progressing for baseball. As head coach Tom Kandler said it, “I know we all would have liked to win a few more games but the bottom line is I feel every single player got better this season and I think all of them had a lot of fun.” It’s been a tough year record wise for baseball, but that’s not what sports are all about. They are all about getting better and having fun with your friends, which these knights did better than most.
Softball
Getting better is one of the biggest parts of softball. It is not an easy sport to pick up, which lots of the players had to do this year. They got better as a team as well as individuals, and are ready to go out and play next year. And a close game against Cicero Prep, if greater Lily Mills hit a homerun, with a few other great place to capture the win. With a lost by only two in the playoffs, this season with the players wanting more, and ready for the next season to come. Good luck Knights!
