Six from TPA qualify for Regional Choir and Orchestra

You no longer need to play a sport to get a varsity letter. this year Cantamus and Sinfonia members can also receive varsity letters. This is no easy feat though. To receive their varsity letters, members had to train to try out for the Regional choir and orchestra.

For the regional choir auditions, singers and musicians had to prepare a solo of classical music and perform some sight-singing exercises. This is no simple task, and the numerous Cantamus and Sinfonia members who tried out for Regionals trained very hard. This included lots of practice perfecting their sight singing and working on their solos.

Five Tempe Prep Cantamus members were accepted into the Regional choir, and one Cantamus member made it to Regional orchestra. Eric Johnson and Joseph Campbell will be singing tenor, David Smith will be singing bass, Clara Moffitt will represent TPA as a soprano, and Abbi Harb is an alternate for alto. Violinist Elizabeth Turley will represent Tempe Prep in the Regional orchestra.

This is an amazing accomplishment; only the top 25 singers for each section are chosen for the choir, and orchestra auditions are also rigorous. They will be participating in the All-Regional Choir and Orchestra concerts at McClintock High School Feb. 16-17.

These talented young singers who made it into Regionals may also audition for the All-State Choir and Orchestra, which is even more challenging.
