Tempe Councilwoman Lauren Kuby is all about building a more sustainable community

Do you know the members of the Tempe City Council? Did you know one of them is the parent of two Tempe Prep alumni?

KubyLauren Kuby has been involved in the Tempe community for many years. She is an advocate for environmentalism and sustainability both within Tempe and globally. Recently, Mrs. Moffitt scheduled an National Honor Society “Prep Talk” where Mrs. Kuby visited and told students about her efforts to make Tempe more sustainable.

Senior Patrick Pagnozzi was in attendance. He details what he learned from and admired about the talk: “I love [Lauren Kuby’s] idea about using humble houses to make a community. The houses are 400 square feet on the bottom floor and 200 square feet on the top, so I feel like they aren’t as small as all of the ‘tiny houses’ everyone sees on TV. I also love the plan for a community center and a community garden. As a future ASU student, I’m excited to see where Tempe is in a few years and in a few decades because of these movements.”

Mrs. Kuby also spoke about how cities nationwide are making movements towards using less fossil fuels and producing less carbon emissions. There are many great programs in Tempe which support her goals like community composting, neighborhood associations, and a group at ASU which will fund innovative ideas which increase sustainability in Tempe.
