Veteran tracksters help younger teammates get stronger, faster

By Carter Sampson

You don’t play track, you run track. There are no goals, touchdowns, or baskets at the end, just a finish line. But when you get there fast all the running is worth it.

Track001Our TPA athletes have been working hard this spring to make sure they’re ready to dominate this year’s season. Having lost several key seniors last year, runners both young and old have stepped up to keep the Knights’ winning ways alive.

Senior star Ahmad Jones says, “I have been able to see all of us improve as athletes and can now help other young trathletes improve and soon become leaders of the team when they are seniors.”

Ahmad and his fellow seniors’ wait is over to become the team’s leaders. They have worked hard to excel in their individual and relay events. Ahmad and George Allen Sarsar have both done well in their own events while leading the men’s 4 by 4 relay. Other standouts include star hurdler Morgan Cryder and pole vaulter Kat Camberg, who is recovering from an ankle injury.

The team has found time to grow together and have fun. As Ahmad says, “The best part of my senior year of track has been spending it with my other seniors.” In their last meet, sophomore Sam Goodykoontz even ended up in a dance battle, which we are certain he won.

We hope the team keeps up their legacy of success with new coach Mark Richardson. We know they’re going to have fun while they do it. Good luck Knights!
