There are many different theories and ideas to what makes a team great. Is it strategy, is it teamwork, is it playing with a cool head? The Tempe Prep baseball team utilizes all three to find success.
But behind their excellent play and wins is chemistry. A chemistry that has been brewing since most of them were in middle school. “We’re a team, where most of us have been together for a long time, most of us have been playing together since middle school.” Says senior Trevor Kerber. “A lot of our success has to do with the fact that we just play baseball. Oftentimes I don’t know what team we’re even playing, I just want to win a baseball game. Most of our team have been playing together since middle school, we know each other’s laying styles so well we can almost always predict what the other is going to do.”
The team’s wide skill set and chemistry have shown in their record. The team is 10-2 in their section, and 15-5 including tournaments overall. The team has proven its worth beating North Pointe Prep 21-4, Phoenix Country Day 14-2, Glendale Prep 10-0, and also notched a convincing win against long-standing rivals Chandler Prep 10-1. They also came through with a scrappy 17-13 victory against an Arizona Lutheran team led by all-star Hans Brauer.
The overall chemistry and effort shown by the team thus far shows that the team has the ability to go far and has great things destined for them. Good luck to the team in the second part of the season.
