Middle School Sports Roundup

By Nolan Bailey

As we roll into the middle part of our spring sports season we start to see all of the student athletes within their teams work together with their different strengths to create successful and improving teams. The middle part of the season is where teams start to figure things out. Where they build chemistry and learn how to work together as a team. All of these student athletes have and continue to put in a lot of work to produce a great season.

Girls Basketball

MS G bsktbll 001The girls basketball team is returning from a very succesful season. As they have lost some players they are still very strong in team chemistry. Team member Julia Cady says, “Our team has learned to trust one another on the court and by doing so we have been able to shoot and score more.” She also said that “We have won some and lost some but we have improved and we are excited to grow as a team.”

The girls team has improved very much and continues to get even better. There also is the girls B team who, like the A team, is improving their skills every day. Second year player Sofie Youngs says, “My team has improved very much since the start because my teammates and I have a better understanding of the sport and worked on our techniques to improve.”

Boys Basketball

The boys A team is led by veteran head coach Mike Phelan. This year on the basketball team there are a lot of returning players but some new additions to the team as well. Although the team does not have many wins they improve each game and develop as a team. Following the A team is the B team. The B team is doing fairly well in games. This team is made up of mostly first year players but they are still improving all around. These two teams are connected by swing players who play in both A and B games helping out on both teams. These swingers play key roles on both teams and do their best to impact the game.

Track

This year as some of you may know we have a new coach, Duncan Clift. This coach is not like any other; he is a part of the U.S. Marine Corps. He believes in discipline and a hard work ethic and that is what he teaches to his track team. They go through rigorous workouts that put them to the test physically and mentally. This work has paid off. These athletes give it their all at meets and succeed in races. Two athletes, Olivia Gillespie and Matthew Surin, are almost always top runners at meets and do very well in competition. With four meets down the team continues to work hard and achieve personal records. These students continue to work hard and grow individually and as a team.

Great job Knights! Keep it up.
