The Tempe Prep softball team has finished up their season, and while it was not always a smooth ride, the girls learned a lot and had some successful games at the end of the season. They finished up a rough season with four wins, including an incredible comeback story.
A game down in Tucson was off to a rough start and the girls were close to being run-ruled (meaning the other team had significantly more points). However, despite tough conditions and a large difference in points, the girls had an amazing comeback and finished the game victorious. After a long game, the girls were rewarded for their hard work. At another game, with the senior players being away on senior trip, the girls won despite the odds.
Although it was a tough season, this did not stop the girls from enjoying themselves. Senior Makenna Colton describes, “The biggest thing I learned from this softball season is that I don’t need to win to have fun. I learned how to just enjoy the game no matter what the score, I came to love the sport.” With an attitude like Makenna’s the girls had a great time at the games, and bonded in the dugout.
Over the course of the season, the team learned how to have fun, and saw improvements in their fielding and overall play. After their well-deserved victories, the girls were ecstatic and the excitement was clear to all those following the sport.
The team is hopeful for future seasons. They are losing two senior players, Makenna Colton and Maria Zello, but are retaining many talented young players. The 2018 season leaves the TPA team more experienced, and with some valuable lessons and fond memories.
