As we start off this new school year, you might have noticed that we have a few more clubs. We can now add Political Discussions club and Coding Club to our list.
Starting with Political Discussion Club, Stella Lovelady, junior, started the club with the goal of discussing political issues such as current events and age-old questions in a constructive manner. As Stella puts it, she hopes to create a “community of people with diverse perspectives of the world that can constructively discuss sensitive and controversial issues in a way that fosters understanding.” She also makes it a point that the goal of this club is not to “ruin friendships” but instead to understand why everyone believes what they believe. The club is also not meant to change anyone’s opinions but inform them of others opinions. This club is simply a place where student can safely share their thoughts and opinions.
Political Discussions Club will meet during high school lunch on Tuesdays, except for days when there is an NHS meeting. For additional information please see Stella Lovelady, Claudia Pace, or Mr. Veenstra, the advisor.
Kelsey Bush, a sophomore, also recently started the Coding Club to teach students about coding, programming, and Java script. She will be teaching others basic Java, how to code, as well as leading various projects. They might even take some field trips.
Kelsey felt the need to start this club because TPA does not have anything like it and she would like to share her passion with others and help them consider other career options. She hopes that this new club will “encourage more young women to get into computer science.” Anyone interested does not have to have any experience or knowledge of JAVA or of coding and she encourages you to come and learn. Coding Club will meet Tuesdays, after school, from 3:15 to 4:15, in the computer lab. For any additional information, please see Kelsey Bush, or Mrs. Richards, the advisor.
Though both of these clubs have already begun, it is not too late to join either of them. So, if you have any interest in politics or coding, I strongly encourage you to join.
