Revved-up Knights stun San Carlos Braves 64-22

Football is by no means a relaxing sport, but the Tempe Prep football team was able to sleep a little easier on Friday night. The team has not had as great of a time as they were hoping for this season after fighting for their first seven games and having nothing to show for it. However, seven games seemed to be the limit as the boys put on a super performance Friday night against San Carlos.

The team looked shaky out of the gates, giving up a touchdown in the first two plays. Still, they had no plans on giving up. The very next play, Sophomore Diego Foster took the kickoff all the way into the endzone for the Knights’ first touchdown of the game. The first quarter went back and forth, one touchdown after another, leaving a 23-22 Knights lead entering the second quarter.

That’s where the Knights took over. The defense was able to shut out San Carlos and pile on big tackles and interceptions. On the other side of the ball, the offense was electric. Quarterback Diego Foster was distributing the ball all over the field like a really accurate confetti cannon. Tyrone “Bubba” Jordan Jr. looked like a beast at running back as well. Junior Ridley Diez de Medina recalled Bubba’s performance, saying, ”He’s so fast and he was just bouncing off of everybody.” Bubba’s stellar performance was rewarded with three touchdowns and a big 64-22 win.

The team was radiating pure joy after the game. Getting to sing Nos Nobis for the first time this season and hoisting their helmets into the air made the team grateful for all the work they’ve put in. Defensive Coordinator Mark Richardson described the game with a big smile on his face saying, “It was a relief. It really was good to see the boys achieve what they’ve really wanted.”

With momentum on their side, the Knights will head into the final weeks of their season with two away games. The first is at Globe next week and then a big showdown with Chandler Prep to cap off their season. Spirits are high right now for the Tempe Prep football team and there aren’t any plans for them to come down anytime soon.
