Online Clubs
Improv Club
This club has started off strong this year, though they have had some setbacks with the new format. Zoe Lenz, freshman, and founder of the club said, “The goals changed a lot this year. I want to get to a point where we can host more than one show.” Improv Club members spend their time learning the basics of improvised comedy and playing fun games. “I want to be able to create a fun environment for people to blow off some steam when everything is chaos,” said Zoe. For anyone interested in joining, no prior knowledge is necessary. They meet on Tuesdays over Zoom at 3:30. Please email Zoe Lenz at zoelenz2024@tempeprep.org if you’re interested!
Environmental Club
This is a group focusing on educating students about the climate crisis and the politics and economy connected to it. In the future, Environmental Club has plans to start up the TPA garden again and host community events. Also, they plan to read books relating to the climate crisis and politics in their new book club over Zoom. Contact Anna Melis, head of Environmental Club, at annmelis2021@tempeprep.org if you have any questions!
Middle School Classics Club
This is an organization that celebrates the civilizations of Greece and Rome. For the middle schoolers, its main objective is to get younger Latin students excited about learning Latin. In the past, they usually did activities related to the cultures of Greece and Rome and their mythology. Now, with the new format of using Zoom, Classics Club has easily adjusted through fun games, scavenger hunts, and myth lessons. Magistra Palumbo, the club organizer and 7th and 8th grade Latin teacher, states that, “People often think that it is catered to [only] academic kids. No, it is for everybody. My goal is just to make sure that each kid can find one thing that they like.” People who are athletic and those who are more academically inclined can come together under a united front of celebrating the classics. The club meets at 3:30 on Tuesdays over Zoom. Please email Magistra Palumbo at spalumbo@tempeprep.org if you are interested in joining!
Middle School Robotics Club
This club is had its first meeting on Sept. 19 over Zoom. The club has a lot in store this year, from learning Python programming to controlling virtual robots. They are looking for more middle school girls to join, since there are great scholarship opportunities for girls in STEM. Contact emily@mause.com if you are interested.
High School Robotics Club
This club is excited to grow the team this year. They are openly inviting high school girls to join the team, since there are many scholarships available for girls in robotics. Please email Mrs. Chavez at floyce.chavez@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Speech and Debate
This is an activity that can help improve a person’s speaking, writing, and argumentation skills. It has a focus on expanding one’s knowledge about politics and their worldview as well as versatile communication. They meet on Mondays at 3:30 over Zoom. Please email Danielle Delgado at ddelgado@tempeprep.org if you would like to join!
Hybrid Clubs
High school Classics Club
Some clubs are managing to meet both in-person and online to accommodate the schedules of all students. High school Classics Club has taken on the challenge of this by setting up a Zoom call like in usual hybrid classes during the school day. High School Classics Club had their first meeting last week on Sept. 14. Their meetings consist of many games and activities put together by the students for their peers, all related to the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome. High school students of any language courses are welcome to attend. If you have any questions, please email Annie Meacham (annmeac2021@tempeprep.org) or advisors Mr. Hansen (jhansen@tempeprep.org) & Dr. Riesbeck (driesbeck@tempeprep.org).
Art Club
The Art Club has decided to continue their meetings with the hybrid format. They plan to have business as usual, but with some changes. There will be an in-person and Zoom combined meeting each Thursday in the Art Room. Please email Mr. Savaglio at jsavaglio@tempeprep.org if you have interest in the Art Club, with the email subject line: “Art Club Interest.”
