Amid the current pandemic, we were all unsure what the sports seasons would be like this year. Some sports, such as the swim team, have found ways to continue practice while maintaining safety. The Arizona Interscholastic Association has set a few guidelines that the team must follow. For instance, at swim we cannot have more than 24 athletes at practice and there is a maximum of 3 swimmers per lane. Luckily, there are less than 24 people on the team, so everyone is able to participate.
There are designated places for everyone to stand when outside of the water to help us maintain our social distance. When asked if she felt safe, sophomore Amanda Maurer said, “With wearing masks before and after each practice, and social distancing enforced in and out of the water, it feels safe practicing each night. It’s nice knowing we are being safe while still having fun and getting to swim this season!”
While I am aware there was a Covid-19 case on the swim team, I can assure you that we are doing everything possible to ensure everyone’s safety. As coach Jenn Steven states, “I have been very, very strict with social distancing and wearing masks.”
Even the AIA and athletic director said we are cleared to continue practice because we are taking every necessary precaution.
