Tempe Prep welcomes new teachers as unusual year begins

Welcome to TPA Mr. Schneider!

Schneider Christian (CJ) 16th & 8th Grade Social Studies; 6th Grade Homeroom

Originally from Kitchener, Canada, Mr. Schneider spent much of his time growing up in libraries and playing historical video games. This led to Mr. Schneider’s increased passion toward History and ultimately his degree in Social Studies education. Mr. Schneider enjoys reading, playing video games, listening to music, and hanging with his two dogs! “What led me to TPA was my desire to teach in a liberal arts school,” says Mr. Schneider. “I needed to teach HOW to think instead of WHAT to think!”

Thank you so much for your passion, Mr. Schneider!

Mrs. CombsCombs Dominique 1

6th Grade Math

We are honored to “welcome back” Tempe Prep’s new 6th grade math teacher, Mrs. Combs! One of our own TPA Knights alumna, Mrs. Combs is returning to Tempe Prep after graduating with the TPA Class 2011! Mrs. Combs graduated from Arizona State in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Minor in Latin. During college, she started a SAT math prep business and “fell in love with teaching math.”  She notes that “it was not until attending college and entering the corporate world that I fully appreciated the gift of a liberal arts education.”  A former TPA Volleyball player, Mrs. Combs loves to “read, play sports, run marathons, read, and hang out with our Golden Retrievers, Posy and Penelope.” She is excited “to be a part of the mission at Tempe Prep!” And we are so thrilled to have you back on the TPA campus, Mrs. Combs!

Wright Trinity 2Miss Wright

10th Grade Humane Letters and 7th Grade History

Welcome to Miss Wright, joining the Tempe Prep faculty to teach the 10th grade Humane Letters and 7th grade History! Originally from San Diego, Miss Wright moved east to brave the cold weather of Michigan to attend Hillsdale College, where she earned her Bachelor Degree in History, with an emphasis in Theology and Philosophy. For the last three years, Miss Wright has been teaching AP European History and Western Civilization II. She likes to teach because it means she can share “what it means to be human and live well, according to the Western tradition,” she says. Miss Wright continues, “I am so excited to now be sharing that awesomeness with the illustrious Tempe Prep community.” In addition to being a massive history and book nerd, Miss Wright loves to listen to vinyl records, visit museums, and hang out with her two cats, Mia and Oliver. We are so excited to welcome Miss Wright to Tempe Prep!

Mr. SolvesSolves Jean-Philippe (JP) 1

8th Grade Earth Science and Advanced Biology

Welcome to Mr. Solves, joining the Tempe Prep faculty to teach 8th grade Earth Science and 12th grade Advanced Biology. A native French speaker, Mr. Solves was originally born and raised in Nice, France and immigrated to the United States when he was 6 years old. He graduated from high school in Arizona and graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor Degree in Biology and a Masters Degree in Plant Biology. During his studies at ASU, he “fostered a profound passion for the botanical sciences,” Mr. Solves says. This year Mr. Solves is looking forward to “building my way of teaching around the TPA philosophy.” Mr. Solves is an avid rock climber, hiker, and plant collector with a cat named Olive, a dog named Baxter, “and nine crazy chickens!”

We are so excited to welcome a new science teacher to TPA. Mr. Solves says, “I am hoping during our time together I can open your eyes up to the wilderness in your backyard.”

Dosier Skyliana 1Miss Dosier

6th grade science

Home grown in Arizona, Miss Dosier has a fascinating history that led her to teach 6th grade science at Tempe Prep. After high school, Miss Dosier went to art school in Massachusetts. It was here that Miss Dosier took an Environmental Sciences class that really opened up her eyes to the natural world. “I fell in love with sustainability,” she says. Shortly after, she finished her undergraduate degree at ASU and received a Master’s Degree in Sustainability.

Miss Dosier loves playing board games, staying active, and being outdoors. She says, “sustainability has really taught me to appreciate nature a lot more.”

Miss Dosier was most drawn to TPA by our emphasis on developing critical thinking skills. She believes that critical thinking is incredibly important in teaching people how to interact in a community responsibly. Miss Dosier says, “when a community really cares about each other and makes those critical thinking choices to care for one another, they make the greatest impact and the most change.”

We are thrilled to welcome Miss Dosier’s passion and expertise to Tempe Prep this year!
