Like playing with fire? Air and Space Club is for you!

By Maya Kostov

Have you ever had a fascination with space, stemming from a love of science fiction or space films or maybe the stars in the night sky? Nothing can beat the awe of the infinite, always evolving space. Have you ever had a fascination with aviation, the concept of flight and a desire to learn about the world from a different angle?

If so, then Air and Space Club is the club for you! Started by seniors Emma Conder, Allison Evdokimo, and Lizzie Turley, Air and Space Club is open to everyone! Emma loves space and Allison loves aviation, and both want to pursue careers in that field. They also both want to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott. So, they decided to create Air and Space Club where they can learn about things they enjoy.

According to Emma, “Future club events include but are not limited to making paper airplanes and tweaking them little by little to see what effect it has on the trajectory of the airplane, and expanding to learning about rockets.” If that hasn’t convinced you yet, the club is sponsored by none other than Mr. Cates.

Emma also explains that “Mr. Cates is working on creating engine fuel because we want to find a way to light off rockets that go about half a mile into the sky! Of course, we are still trying to find a place where that is legal, but we are working on it!”

So, if you have seen any smoke coming from the chemistry room as of late, it’s probably one of Mr. Cates’s new concoctions. So, if any of this sounds fun to you, join Air and Space Club! They meet after school every Tuesday in the chemistry room (401).
