Our Latin IV class has ended up in a very unique situation. Seeing as we no longer have a teacher, and there were no other teachers available to instruct us during third hour, we are taking an online course for the remainder of the semester. We are taking the course through Rio Salado College, meaning that we are all enrolled in a college course.
Normally, students do not have direct access to their Rio instructors. However, we are given weekly lessons to complete which are turned in to and graded by our very own Ms. Palumbo. This makes things more convenient for us because we are able to contact our teacher more easily than normal with Rio Salado courses and have resources on campus.
Mr. Lambros has been our semi-permanent substitute and has been making sure students stay on task while we have also been figuring out how to get his Spotify working. We are able to still get the same fun, social experience as a real class and also have time to complete our work online which I find very nice.
Ms. Palumbo thinks we are doing very well with the course and enjoys seeing our work. She says, “On my end, I love to see your literary analysis questions. It is a refreshing break from reading middle school work and brings me back to the day when I was teaching high school! You all have a great Roman history foundation due to Mr. Hansen!”
Our class seems to be doing well despite how tedious the work can sometimes be. My classmate Maia Carbajal says, “The work that is given to us is a good amount but it’s just very repetitive.” I agree that the work can be very repetitive at times, which often makes it difficult to stay motivated, but we support one another and are making it through this difficult time together.
Ms. Palumbo says that while it can be difficult to stay motivated, we can always look on the bright side and remember that we are receiving college credit for a review course of last year. We would all prefer to have a regular class, but we are making the most of our situation and doing our best!
