Tempe Prep’s Herstory club has a bright future ahead with new leadership. Tamsin Hurlbut, a TPA freshman, has been elected the new president for the club. “I’m so excited to lead Herstory next year,” she said.

Clara Moffitt, the current president of Herstory, is excited to see what Tamsin will bring to the club. “Tamsin is all set up to do a fantastic job,” she said. “She is driven, sharp, and passionate.”

Clara has been the Herstory president for the last three years. “The most important part to me was inspiring young women to feel empowered and take that power to inspire others,” she said. “Even if I made an impact on just five girls here, I feel like I have made my mark. If those five inspire five more, and they inspire five more and the cycle continues, think of how many people we have making a difference!”

Clara is particularly proud of the increase in membership during her tenure. “I think Herstory has become a more common name on campus and people’s minds have opened,” she said.

Clara also offered some advice for her successor, Tamsin: “My biggest advice to her and to all others in Herstory, both officer and otherwise, would be to let that passion drive you. Find the things that bother you and do something about them,” Clara said. “Never be idle and never let a work as important as what we do in Herstory/Girl Up become monotonous or meaningless. Give it your own meaning and continue to work hard for what you believe.”

Dr. Salcido, Herstory’s faculty representative, also has big hopes for the future president.  “I am really excited about the new leadership as they are already starting to make suggestions of activities that we can do next year,” she said. “I truly enjoy the energy and innovative spirit a new leadership brings along.”

Tamsin has lots of big plans for Herstory the upcoming year. “First of all, I want Herstory to keep doing what it’s doing! It has made amazing changes over the years, opened up opportunities for volunteering, and empowered women at TPA,” Tamsin said. “But in addition to that, I want to have another drive, I want the club to read more feminist literature, I want to increase club publicity, and re-engineer the Instagram.”

She loves the message Herstory strives to emphasize: “I wholeheartedly believe in Herstory’s message,” she said. “I think it is so important to empower girls worldwide and in the TPA community, and I wanted to help lead an organization with this purpose.”

Although she is only a freshman, Tamsin has big plans for success. “I believe that the best time to get involved in my passions is now!” You got this, Tamsin!
