NHS Halloween buddy event is a scary good time

   Boo!

National Honor Society members enjoyed a fun, spooky and scary event with their buddies on, Oct. 29.

Senior Taylor McNally planned the event and with the help of parent volunteers put on what senior James Philipps called “a scary good time.” At the Halloween Buddy Meet-up, there were four groups: Green, Orange, Black and Purple, each of which rotated through different activity stations.

Senior Matthew Surin muffifies his buddy.

The first station consisted of “heads-up,” where one buddy put a slip of paper with a Halloween-themed object, person or movie on their forehead, while the other buddies had to describe the object. The next station was good old-fashioned Halloween bingo where the squares were Halloween objects. The third station was the mummy station, where one buddy wrapped the other in toilet paper. Finally, there was a ball-and-spoon relay race, where the seniors and juniors went head to head against the sixth graders. Each person had to walk half the basketball court and back with a ball on a spoon.

All participants had a blast. The reward, of course, was candy for everyone, and who doesn’t like candy for breakfast? James found that the activities “helped (his) buddy and (him) bond in a variety of ways” because they both had to “work together as a team,” which led him to find out they are both “surprisingly competitive.” Overall, the activities served as a great opportunity for the buddies to have fun outside of academic talk and learn more about each other.

Events like these help build roots within the TPA community, integrate new students into the school and break down the barriers between grade levels. Look forward to more NHS events like this one in the future.
