The National Honor Society chapter at Tempe Prep accepts an average of 25 juniors and/or seniors each year. On April 6, it inducted a total of 31 students. The NHS Induction is the club’s most important event because it is the celebration that welcomes and honors the new incoming students.
During the event, the currently elected officers first gave speeches on their experiences while leading NHS, and the four pillars of the club: Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character. Then the president, Marzuk Hasan, invited each of the new inductees to take their pledges to uphold these pillars and standards.
To become an inductee, students need to have at least a 3.0 GPA, two active TPA extracurriculars and all their service hours completed. To maintain “good standing,” students must continue to participate and uphold their GPA, have 15 service hours each semester – with some completed through NHS group service projects – and 10 leadership points, also per semester.
Mrs. Moffitt, the sponsor of the society, says, “Being part of the NHS is a vehicle for students to exhibit excellence.” If you are an incoming junior that would like to become more active in your school and community, consider joining the National Honor Society next school year.
