Harvard! Broadway! Liberty Bell! Oh my! Back after two years, the East Coast college trip took Tempe Prep students to see all of these places and more over Fall Break.
On their first full day, the 19 high school students, Mrs. Moffitt, TPA alumna, Harvard graduate and sixth grade teacher, Ms. Jacqueline McIntosh and their tour guide, Mr. Robert Rummerfield, explored Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT, and Cambridge and Boston, Massachusetts. They saw sights including the Freedom Trail, Boston Harbor and Paul Revere’s House. On the second day, the students had the choice to tour either Northeastern or Boston University and later, Boston College, Barnard College or Tufts University. In the evening, they all visited Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
During their following day, the group went around colleges including the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and Yale University, and experienced a “Night on Broadway” where they watched SIX!, a musical about the six wives of King Henry VIII. For the next day, the students visited places such as Alexander Hamilton’s gravesite, 9/11 Memorial, the New York Stock Exchange at Wall Street and the Statue of Liberty in historic New York. Then, the group all took a road trip down to Princeton University in New Jersey.
Finally, on the last day, they toured Villanova and St. Joseph’s University, the University of Pennsylvania ,Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell before departing for their plane ride back home later that evening. Throughout the trip, the students bonded together and made several memories during college tours and excursions in the different states. They learned about and explored numerous renowned colleges and historical landmarks. Senior John Vincent Perez says the East Coast trip was an “informative trip that takes you to discover the culture-rich East Coast colleges.”
