From ice-skating to lacrosse, there are an abundance of sports to try and dive into.
But the only one that caught eighth-grader Esther Cui’s attention was trap shooting. Trap shooting is a sport where contestants aim at targets that are launched from a machine. The goal is to hit as many targets as possible.
Esther has been doing trap shooting for about a year and has had great success with it. Over the summer, she competed in the National Junior Olympics Championship and won a silver medal. In the future, she is aiming high and hopes to represent the U.S. in the World Championship Cup.
She started shooting for “something that both trained me in academics and athletics.” Esther also started shooting to spend time with her family. Through shooting, she has met many people and made many friends from different places around the country.
Currently, Esther is trying to bring her interest in trap shooting to TPA. She is working with Mr. Keating to create a club.
“The way to use this powerful tool, a.k.a gun, is to use it in sports, and this is the correct way to use the gun,” Esther said. Good luck to Esther in her trap-shooting endeavors!
