Of the 400,000 students who submitted writing and art portfolios to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, senior Manny Ortiz was selected as a Scholastic Golden Key recipient.
Only 1% of submissions receive a Golden Key award and make it to the national level for judging in New York.
This year, Manny was one of these talented 5,000 recipients.
Manny submitted a photography portfolio of six photos as his artwork.
At the national level, Manny will compete for scholarship awards including the $12,000 Gold Medal scholarships for 16 winners and the $1,000 Silver Medal scholarships for 24 winners.
Manny is one of only two Arizona applicants who have received a Golden Key award. He is looking forward to his trip to New York City for the awards ceremony in the summer. Manny says, āIām proud of putting myself out there and not being afraid of judgment.ā
Good luck Manny!
