Seniors enjoy the annual D.C. trip

By Mariah Gunnison

After going through the process of writing a senior thesis, an adventure-filled trip to Washington, D.C. was well-deserved for the graduating class of 2024.

The week before Spring Break in March, the seniors spent six days on the trip bonding with classmates and viewing historical monuments.

Going to D.C. turned years of textbook readings into a tangible reality for many seniors. Some students got to visit the U.S. Senate chamber, take a tour of the White House and see the Jefferson Memorial. The seniors also enjoyed seeing the Washington Monument at night.

The two museums that students and chaperones visited that seemed to have the most impact were the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Mr. Weiss said he learned a lot at the African American Museum. “It was so cool to see all the amazing ways people of color have contributed to the United States. It was extremely depressing to see how poorly these communities have been treated for most of U.S. history, but it is inspiring to see their incredible contributions and achievements,” he said.

Senior Dayanara Gamez added that seeing the exhibitions put a lot of modern day life into perspective for her.

The senior trip was educational, but it was also entertaining. On the second day of the trip, Mr. Lambros took the seniors to see an interactive murder mystery play that took place in a hair salon.

Dayanara said that one of her favorite experiences was getting closer with students she hadn’t expected to be close with, especially given the small size of her class.

Mr. Weiss said his favorite overall experience was “getting to experience a dense city with all of the seniors. It was cool to travel around with them and see them outside of the school environment.”

Lastly, the food that D.C. had to offer was wonderful. Both Mr. Weiss and Dayanara shared the same favorite meal: at The Wharf DC. “It was absolutely delectable!” Dayanara said, giving the meal and experience a 10 out of 10.
