TPA sophomores visit the University of Arizona

By Esther Cui

On Feb. 6, the TPA sophomores went on a trip touring the college campus of the University of Arizona.

Located in Tucson, U of A is renowned for its comprehensive range of academic offerings, with 277 undergraduate specializations and nearly 500 postgraduate specializations across a wide array of fields, making it a perfect place to introduce the diverse opportunities colleges offer.

They started the day by being informed on the purpose and expectations of the trip: to show what college is going to look like.

They then were separated into groups and dove into a survey that allowed them to learn more about themselves academically. The survey consisted of questions to help them learn more about personal interests, possible majors and classes that were available to take.

After lunch, they left the main room and took a tour around the campus. The tour “really showed us how … life was at U of A,” Abigail Baker says. “Everywhere we went, there were just crowds and crowds of people. …. It’s a good school if you want a big school with a lot of different people.”

The class spent the day touring the campus and hanging out with other college students. The U of A campus has buildings that stretched back over a century next to modern facilities. After looking at the buildings, Abigail says that “it was really interesting because the history went so far back.”

By the end of the trip, they got to experience college life and were introduced to the amount of majors and classes that they could take.

The field trip really helped get a preview of college, the future and how college will help accomplish your goals in life. Abigail says, “(It was a) definitely interesting tour. … A lot of people seemed really interested and wanted to learn more. …(They could) definitely see themselves going to U of A.”

In the end, Abigail concludes that “it was definitely educational and told me a lot about how college is going to be and what to … prepare myself for.”
