TPA’s Margaret DeLaney in Short Film

By: Anna DeLaney

“When I got involved in acting, about 3 ½ years ago, I started off working on manuscripts and monologues, but now things are a little more real”. Margaret Delaney (7th grade) has wanted to be an actress since she was seven years old. Over the summer Margaret got the opportunity to play a part in the short film Marked by Destiny by Michelle Wolett. She also played in Imagine That by Angel Ruiz two summers ago. The film Marked by Destiny, is about a family with three children, the youngest possessing a gift that connects her to an alien planet. Margaret’s character, Ali, is based off of Max in Stranger Things. “I’m a nerd when it comes to adventure and Marvel,” she says,  “my character in the film was also a nerd, so I relate to her.” When she wasn’t in costume filming, Margaret helped with other jobs like operating the boom mic. Once the filming and editing were complete, the cast dressed up and went to a red carpet at Pollack Cinema in Tempe.

When asked about what started her interest in acting, Margaret said, “I wanted to be famous when I was little, and I still do. But my specific dream is to be on SNL because I want to be a comedian along with acting. They’ve both been a dream of mine since I was young.” Other than the short film, Margaret has also auditioned for plays and movies like the play The Mad Hatter and The Conjuring.

After graduation, she hopes to “go to USC or UCLA because they both have really good acting programs.” The next step in her acting career is to get an agent with the help of her acting coach. Margaret comments that one struggle she has is trying to get her “big break,” or becoming well known, making finding an agent helpful for her. Even though her career has only just started, she has already been flying high.
