After a long season, sports participants saw their work pay off at the Winter Sports Banquet! The event was held in late February in the school auditorium and was led by the athletic director, Mr. Henderson. It was meant to celebrate the accomplishments of the sports participants in the winter season and highlight the importance of the athletic department staff.
Both middle school and high school sports teams attended, including soccer, wrestling, baseball, and basketball. Each team was called to the stage, starting with middle school sports. Their coach then got an opportunity to talk a bit about their team and their season. Ryan Appleton, a player for the middle school soccer team, said he really enjoyed listening to the coaches. “They were all interesting, and it gave me a deeper understanding of what goes on in these sports”.
After the speeches, three awards were handed out: one for most valuable player, one for most improved player, and the Knight award, which was given to a participant who was not only a good player but a good person. Each player who received an award would have a few words said about them and their performance in the sport. The coaches also recognized players for all region recognitions.
The Winter Sports Banquet was also enjoyable for the team members to be a part of. Hazel Hurlbut, a junior and member of the girls’ soccer team said, “It was pretty fun! I thought it was organized well and overall a success”.
In addition to the award ceremony, there was also pizza and cupcakes for the sports participants and their families.
All in all, the Winter Sports Banquet gave much-deserved recognition to team participants and was a fun event for those who attended!
