What makes the TPA wrestling team special? Not only do they hold their own with a ridiculously small number of wrestlers, they do it while looking good. On our wrestlers, those singlets become high fashion.
This is the team’s first year in TPA history, and so all the members are brand-new to the sport of wrestling. However, that hasn’t stopped them from being successful against far more experienced teams.
Coach David DeSilva’s knowledge has been essential to the Knight’s success. John Phelan said,”Coach is really good at teaching you a couple moves that will help you with matches: the pins, the rides, and everything like that.”
Junior captain Max Hoyt said, “For a first-year team, I think we’ve been pretty successful, especially in the heavyweight classes. Definitely, Jonathan Phelan has been doing extremely well, and I think will all be better in time.”
When asked about any standout stories from the season, Max said, “Wrestling is a very intimate sport, and that makes it a breeding ground for some stories.” For obvious reasons those stores will not be described here.
Our wrestlers have shown that Knights can become dominant and anything they put their mind to. They have set a pattern of winning for the future of the wrestling program. We can expect great things at the state meet and in future seasons from this team. Go Knights!
