Football at TPA is more than sport, it’s a group of young men who treat each other like brothers, and these brothers become more of a team each day. So far this season the team has won two games and lost a game.
The first game of the season was against Valley Christian. The team struggled in the first half but found their stride in the second resulting in a 40-28 victory, their eighth in a row against Valley Christian.
The team traveled to Round Valley, one of Arizona’s toughest Division 2 teams, for their second game of the season, losing 40-12. Yet receivers Ahmad Jones and Liam Collins agree the highlight of the early season was played during that game in a successful “hook and ladder” trick play scoring one of the two touchdowns. Even though the game wasn’t a win they kept their team in good spirits, treating the loss as a learning experience.
The team continues to improve, with a lopsided 56-8 win last Thursday against Glendale Prep.
As Liam Collins puts it, football is interesting because the game itself really doesn’t matter as much as the fact that it fosters a sense of discipline in its players and teaches you to be persistent in the face of adversity. These ideas are plastered in the minds of Tempe Prep varsity football players by their passionate head coach, Joshua Brittain, and it’s one of the many reasons they work so well together.
