Cantamus earns high marks at Flagstaff festival

On Feb. 9-10, Tempe Prep’s Cantamus choir traveled to Northern Arizona University to attend the Jazz Madrigal Festival, where other choirs also performed.

We had an awesome time.

cantamus1We rode on the bus from TPA to Springhill Suites. While on the bus, we would practice our songs for the performance.

We did things such as going to see the NAU choir and the acapella group Empact perform, visiting the Lowell Observatory and, most important of all, performing at Ashurst Hall on the NAU campus. We received a rating of “excellent,” which is the second-highest rating a choir could get at the performance. That is great considering it is our choir director’s first year leading our choir.

Some of the students who participated talked about their favorite experiences. Freshman Clara Moffitt says, “My favorite part was the Empact concert with friends. I definitely feel that I got closer with other Cantamus people and I would do it again next year.”

Junior Sarah Goodykoontz says, “My favorite parts were the bus rides with my friends and when we were about to go into the observatory, but before Mrs. Stewart had us sing one of our songs in the woods, and it was super beautiful.”

This was the first year for new choir director Aimee Stewart to lead TPA at the Jazz Madrigal Festival, and everyone thinks she did an awesome job and we cannot wait to see what she has in store for the years to come.
