It’s not too late! A new culture, tropical animals, and a visit to the beautiful Machu Picchu, can be something you can experience this summer!
No one is required to take Spanish to go on the trip to Peru, but it provides an excellent opportunity to practice one’s Spanish skills. Senor Cardoso said that he is most excited about the “Inca culture, which is a group of indigenous people.”
Senor also said that he is “very excited about the music. The natives of Peru play many traditional instruments like the siku, the samponas, and the charango.” My guess is that most of you have never even heard of those instruments.
Currently there are seven students signed up to go on the trip, but Senor Cardoso and Dr. Salcido need at least five more people to sign up to go to Peru. The group will be leaving around June 7 for their nine-day trip.
The first day will be spent traveling to Peru. The second day will be spent sight-seeing the capital of Peru, Lima. Lima was once known as the “City of the Kings.” The third day will be spent traveling to, and exploring the “Sacred Valley of the Incas.”
Because the group will be traveling at over 15,000 feet elevation, they will be using a special plant, discovered by the indigenous people, to control the pressure. The indigenous people used the coca plant to make a tea to drink which helps control the pressure from the elevation.
During the fourth day the group will be taking a train to the magnificent Machu Picchu. The group will take a short scenic hike experiencing the beauty of this grandiose and outstanding country.
The rest of the trip will be full of more amazing sight-seeing and a plane ride home.
