13-0. The Girls Soccer team crushed North Point Prep 13-0. It’s moments like that when you realize how much of a difference working as a team makes. The team ended their season 6-6-2, with a preseason win against Valley Christian.
This season of soccer has been really great and that is because of the awesome young women who made up the teams. There were so many girls that tried out that they had to have JV and Varsity teams. Every day those girls came ready to put in hard work at practice and never give up in games. They always kept a positive attitude and were supportive of each other.
Not only that, but Sophomore Cienna Jaime made 1st team All-Region for Midfield, Senior Morgan Cryder made 1st All-Region for Defense, Junior Jacqueline Risch made 2nd team for Goalkeeper, Freshman Olivia Gillespie and Junior Lauren Casey both made 2nd team for Forwards and Sophomore Kylie Klassen made 2nd team for Midfield.
When asked about her experiences this year, Sophomore Cienna Jaime said, “This past season was the best yet. Not only were our players extremely gifted, but the most predominant feature that helped us was our encouragement and camaraderie with one another. From filling buckets at the end of the game, to the motivating messages we sent via group chat, this was overall one of the best teams I could’ve ever asked for and I am extremely thankful for all of them.”
The team had a lot of exciting and close games but one of the highlights of the season was playing in the Chandler Prep Invitational tournament. The ladies played 4 games undefeated against 6A and 4A schools. To give you some perspective on what 6A and 4A schools actually mean, Tempe Prep is either a 2A or 3A school. That means that these girls beat 4 teams that have either double, or even triple our student body. Coach Megan expressed her appreciation saying, “I’m really proud of them for how they stepped up and played new positions and comforted teammates because of injuries and personal family heartache. This year of coaching for me was my best of my four years here. The whole team was on the same page of working hard and taking the season seriously. Every single one of my players always did their best and always worked to improve.” Experienced players Morgan Cryder and Jacqueline Risch stepped up to help teammates who were new to soccer or had less experience to improve. Overall, this team had amazing chemistry and I bet are already looking forward to next season!
