Bonfire event lights up winter break for upper classmen

By Samuel Campbell

If you weren’t there you really missed out (or you’re a middle schooler). Hayden Sampson, Dallin Kartchner and Mr. Lambros planned an amazing bonfire activity with pizza and games during winter break. Louis Ternyik says that ” It was a nice way to ease back into school after a two-week break.”

Bonfire008The night started after sundown with the lighting of the bonfire behind the Tempe Prep gym, then continues with some low-key and relaxed glow-in-the-dark frisbee. No one formally kept score, but it was really nice getting a chance to play with different people. As more people showed up for the activities, it only got more exciting. Some people played volleyball, while others just had time to hang out and talk with friends.

At around 9 pm Mr. Lambros sent a group of people to pick up the pizza. It was truly a magnificent sight, seeing Cannon Kartchner walk into the gym with multiple pizzas in his hands. When everyone had their fair share of pizza, the upperclassmen verses underclassmen dodge-ball game began. Because of the number of jail breaks that were constantly given, the game continued for about 45 minutes. There was no decisive winner, but because of some amazing athleticism, it is fair to say that the upperclassmen won the game.

The last part of the night was definitely the most eventful: the capture the flag game. If you don’t know what capture the flag is, ask someone. Seriously. There were some legendary points scored, some by amazing freshmen like Mace Klassen and Thaddaeus Lily. The game was super fun, but the ending was one to remember. Basically, Hayden Sampson scored the winning point for the underclassmen, but as the 9th and 10th graders celebrated, someone quite randomly claimed to have tagged Hayden before he crossed the line.

Bonfire002The winner of the game was now indecisive, so to decide the winner the upperclassmen and underclassmen chose to complete in a rock paper scissors game. Consequently the upperclassmen won the game, claiming the victory. We know who the real winner was.
