Alum Sam Fowler helps coach baseball team to strong start

The TPA baseball season is definitely looking interesting so far. There are 13 people playing this year, with five of the people either haven’t played at all or in a really long time. But they’re coming around quite nicely and have really been improving.

The team is coached by veteran head coach Tom Kandler and assistant coach and TPA alum Sam Fowler, a baseball standout during his high school years at Tempe Prep. Also helping Fowler as assistant coach is Christian Vivian.

The team practices every week, working on their skills and bringing every player up to speed. They jumped right in with a scrimmage against Horizon Honors, and then a double header tournament (back to back games) against Scottsdale Christian and Washington High. Although the team didn’t win the two games, they were very close, considering the fact that Scottsdale Christian is predicted to be the State Champions this year. This team will definitely give them a run for their money!

Sophomore Spencer Bodow says that “This season is looking good so far. Our pitching and defense are looking pretty good and our fielding is improving every day!”

The boys played their first season game against Phoenix Country Day School and beat them 7-2. They followed up with wins over Heritage Academy (20-4) and Veritas Prep (13-0).

Sophomore Jake Medlen said that “Pitching by Griffin and Carter was exceptional!” It’s only the beginning of the season and things are already looking bright for the baseball team this year! Go Knights!
