Usain Bolt, the most famous track star, has a net worth of around $100 million. And while he keeps running and making money, student athletes at Tempe Prep fuel themselves to succeed on the track and in the field. Already halfway through their season, the team has spent endless hours perfecting their events and showing it off at meets, hoping to qualify for state.
For some, qualifying for state has already been taken care of, and the only challenge is winning state. Lauren Casey has qualified for the 100- and 200-meter races. Morgan Cryder clinched her spot for the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.
Joining them for the 4×100 and 4×400 relay races at state will be Jatzia Felix and Allison Youngs. Jatzia has also qualified for both long and triple jump. And the last of the competitors so far is Chloe Darling as she put up a top five performance for shot put. The state meet is still a month away so there is still time for anyone to qualify.
Track and field has been able to attract plenty of athletes this season due to its wide array of events. “Track is such a great sport because everybody is able to do what they feel like doing,” says sophomore Hayden Sampson. With spirits high and minds focused, the team has all enjoyed their season and look forward to finishing out strong.
