Checks and Balances Club will help you get a handle on your finances

By Samuel Campbell

Do you want to be rich? Do you know how to buy a house? How to balance a checkbook? Do you know what credit really is? Tempe Prep’s newest club, Checks and Balances, is a fun way to help learn about some awesome life skills. This new club was created by Kylie Antrosilglio, a junior who, like most high schoolers, wanted to learn more about some necessary life skills.

moneyThe club meets every Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. in room 204. The group currently has 8 members, but with the great opportunity that the club present, hopefully more will soon join. Some of the topics learned during club meetings can be a bit monotonous, so Kylie has come up with different ways to make the meetings fun.

To all you middle schoolers, you’ve got plenty of time before you have to learn much of what the club teaches. Therefore the club is only for high schoolers, but nonetheless, you are free to join later when you reach high school. The club is supposed to help with such things as credit, loans, and processes such as buying houses.

Kylie, “plans to work with investing and stocks later in the year.” Kylie will teach you more in depth, but through stocks and investment, done right, you can actually make some serious money. As well as learning great life skills, Kylie says, “the purpose of the club is to be more prepared in life after one leaves high school.”

Maya Kostov, one of the club members, is also “excited for the opportunity to learn more about topics not typically taught in school.” This is a great new opportunity for all high schoolers as they progress towards adulthood and greater responsibility.

Like all clubs, this one was in need of a sponsor, and Dr. Wallington stepped up. A huge help to those wanting to start a new club, Dr. Wallington has been the sponsor of other clubs recently, such as the new club, Math Society.
