Tempe Prep’s Ambassadors program helps new students assimilate

By Borislava Panayotova

The time has come for the students of Tempe Prep to shine. How can a student even do that? Well, they can try joining Mr. Hansen’s Student Ambassadors. This new addition to the TPA student life is to benefit only new students. However, the Ambassadors program is not a club but more of a job that a student can have. Being an ambassador means that you are the leader figure of your grade. Congratulations, you can handle responsibility. As an ambassador, you would show your leadership qualities by leading orientations, tours, and being shadowed by upcoming students.

Mr. Hansen came up with this idea by looking back at his college. While he was still a student, he took part in a similar organization. He is also the Orientation Coordinator at Tempe Prep, so he was needing an interesting thing to do.

During these questioning times, the current Ambassadors are still hard at work. At the beginning of this year, they planned out and worked on the online orientation for new incoming students. They answered questions about the upcoming year, played games, and socialized with the new students. The online/in-person schedule, while a great idea, “affected my hopes of creating an Ambassador Buddies Program and of meeting with the Ambassadors on a monthly basis,” Mr. Hansen says. It mainly messes up the schedules of both the students and the teacher in charge.

The way our school can be improved by adding the ambassadors is allowing new students the opportunity to assimilate better. Entering a new school is really hard, especially if everyone already has their particular group of friends, and the ambassadors would make it easier to find a clique. If you’re interested in joining, you can go ahead and email Mr. Hansen for the information. There are currently 18 ambassadors.
