Improv clubs help Zoe Lenz build her confidence performing before audiences

If anybody has ever created any sort of project for school, they would know what a pain it is to write either a speech for it or improvise the whole thing. Improvising is a very hard thing to do, especially if you don’t have any experience being put on the spot. Freshman Zoe Lenz will never have this problem since she is a part of a club called Proscenium Arches, a high school improv team.

A proscenium is the metaphorical vertical plane of space in a theatre and arches because a proscenium usually has arches. This is an outside club that does not exist at our school but she takes part in it at the National Comedy Theater in Phoenix. This theater is coincidentally led by her parents. However, while her parents did fuel her love for theater, she decided to join the Proscenium Arches on her own.

Zoe has been a part of the club for two years and she loves it. “It gives me something  extra to look forward to,” she says. The Arches meet on Mondays from 4 to 6. Before all the craziness happened, they used to meet at the National Comedy Theater, but now they meet on Zoom. They also record the shows they make and post them on YouTube.

Since Zoe has been doing this for a bit, she is the current captain of the group. Together, with the rest of the group, they play a bunch of different, interesting improv and theater games. Being a part of the group for so long has taught her what kinds of games she can do for the TPA Improv Club that she leads.

Now, if you ever want to improve your improvisation skills, you do not have to search up this club, because Zoe is in charge of the Improv Club at school, as mentioned above. If you are interested in spending some time playing games and learning how to communicate better, you can contact Zoe (zoelenz2024@tempeprep.org) and go to the next Improv Club meeting on Tuesday after school.
