Do you want to be an entrepreneur? For Senior Brooke Kirk the answer was yes. She received the Bronze Medal Youth Award in Entrepreneurship for the Hispanic Heritage Youth Award Scholarship. The award is sponsored by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, which is sponsored by The White House.
To receive this scholarship, Brooke went through a difficult application process, which included an essay. In that paper she wrote about her qualifications and various extracurriculars, including her position as the Director of Finance for Girl Up Arizona.
“It was a pretty extensive application, but it was definitely very worth it.”
Aside from scholarship money, Brooke was also entered into a network of people and students who previously won the award. “It enters you into a really supportive community of people who want to succeed and want you to succeed.”
To any who want to pursue the same scholarship, or any scholarship, Brooke says,
“I would definitely recommend applying to any scholarship no matter how competitive or daunting it seems.” Additionally, she recommends applying for as many as you can, because you never know what you’re going to get.
“It might seem daunting, because it is really competitive like any scholarship, but you never know what you’re going to get. Go for it.”
