   TPA’s Cantamus, a choir composed of 31 students, performed a wide variety of songs at their “Cantamus Christmasplosion” on Dec. 7.

   The choir sang several pieces including “Ain’t Got Far To Go,” a contemporary a cappella, and a lyrical piece about the dawn of a snowy morning titled “Glow.” To prepare for their big event, the students learned solfege, sight-reading, purity of tone, vocal warm-ups, technique, and a diverse range of repertoire during rehearsals. 

   “The choir has made huge strides already!” says director Aimee Stewart, “We’ve become more confident in our own voices, learned to trust our sections, learned to create harmony, and most importantly, I think they have learned how much fun a choir can be.”

   The concert aims to show the choir’s triumphant return after the pandemic. Ms. Stewart says, “My goal is to make choir an inclusive, safe and really positive place for TPA students to express their talents and experience the joy of singing.” 

   Currently, some students in Cantamus are preparing for Regionals where they will be sight-reading and performing solos. Next semester, the entire choir will be preparing for its spring concert.
