Ask Athena! – Handle a cheater and make up with friends

Struggling with a difficult problem? Not sure how to make a decision? Don’t worry, Athena is here to offer her advice. You can ask her questions through the box located in the the auditorium or her email: tpaAskAthena@gmail.com. Please keep questions school appropriate and note that every question will not be answered.

What should I do if I know someone is cheating off of me?

The simple solution is to tell your teacher. Let them know what is happening, and they will help you solve the problem. But I understand if you don’t want to get the student in trouble. A second solution is to confront the student and tell them to do their own work. However, this can also be scary and in that case, you can ask your teacher to move seats. If they ask for an explanation, tell them that you are having issues with the student. If none of these options appeal to you, you can sabotage their work by putting all the wrong answers on your paper, making sure they are in full view. (Totally kidding, definitely don’t do that last one!)

How do I make up with a friend?

Friends often become mad with one another over misunderstandings, and the best way to clear the air is to have a conversation. If it isn’t miscommunication, and you did something wrong, you should apologize. Your friend typically wants you to take responsibility for your actions, and you can move on from there. If they did something wrong, you have a few options. In the event that the incident was minor, you should forget and forgive. If they made a major mistake and still won’t apologize, you might have to leave them alone. You don’t want a person in your life that hurts you and doesn’t take accountability for their actions.
