Starting a new sports’ team is a big task, but this year’s TPA boys’ volleyball team did just that.
The team’s main focuses have been to get organized, build team chemistry and simply have a fun season. So far, all have been accomplished. The team has already played six games and currently has a record of 1-5 after winning the first game in TPA boys’ volleyball history, against Leading Edge Academy on Mar. 29.
Almost halfway through the season, the boys are developing a good perspective on their overall potential as a team, and are proud of what their first year has brought. Junior Connor Clark says, “There are a lot of challenges that come with founding an entirely new sports team, but we’ve managed to adapt surprisingly well to all potential hardships.”
Though they have not won every game, the team is working hard to keep improving for the rest of the season. Connor said, “While we weren’t quite at the level of other teams yet, we didn’t quite expect to be. Plus in spite of this, we’ve made massive improvements to our game which I can clearly see from one game to the next and I know that at this rate, we’ll be competing with seasoned teams in no time.”
By facing the hardships of a brand-new team, the boys have built a solid bond with one another to endure each practice and game. Sophomore Tate Foudy says, “Because it is such a small school and a small team, we have great chemistry and build each other up a lot.” The relationships the team has built helps the players in both in and out-of-game scenarios. Connor said, “Being able to have fun together while working has made volleyball just that much more exciting.”
Although forming a new team can be challenging, the boys’ volleyball team has come together for their love of the sport.
Support them at their next game on Apr. 12 against Phoenix Christian at the TPA gym.
