The De Equtibus “Teacher Spotlight” features teachers’ responses to questions that pertain to the Tempe Prep curriculum and campus, and the feature presents fun facts about the teachers themselves. We are excited to begin these highlights and we hope it is an addition that many readers will look forward to.
1.) What is your favorite book and character from that book in the Tempe Prep curriculum and why?
2.) If you could eat only one food/meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Dr. Wayne Porter:
1. My favorite character is Atticus Finch from “To Kill a Mockingbird.” I like him for his calm demeanor and because he was not afraid to stand up for what was right in the face of potentially significant opposition. He did the right thing during a time and in a place where it would have been very easy to do what was popular. He embodies a great man!
2. If there were no adverse effects from eating something that isn’t very healthy, I would eat Frosted Flakes with fresh strawberries and heavy whipping cream (in liquid form) instead of milk!
Mrs. Carissa Drake:
1. My favorite book from the curriculum (if I’m forced to choose) is probably “A Tale of Two Cities” because I think the story is masterful. I love how Dickens weaves the characters together through different generations as well as locations. Madame Defarge is my favorite character because her anger is a living and breathing thing that seems to have seeped away her humanity, and yet you can relate to her need for justice and revenge. You know you are supposed to hate her and yet you’re intrigued.
2. I could probably eat tacos every day for the rest of my life. Can I have ice cream too?
